Day 1

Arrive (Namibia)

Welcome to Namibia!

Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival pick your rental vehicle up from the BIDVEST desk. The vehicle will be a 4x4 Toyota Double Cab with canopy (or similar)

Head to your first stop, the Villa Violet, one of the top rated B&B guesthouses in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.

Rest of day at leisure.

Windhoek is home to a plethora of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and accommodation options. The city is clean, safe and well-organised, with a colonial legacy that is reflected in its many German eateries and shops, and the widespread use of the German language. Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the Alte Feste (Old Fort), the 1896 Christuskirche (Christ Church), and the more contemporary Supreme Court.

Villa Violet is the very definition of a bed and breakfast guesthouse where you get a personal welcome from the owners, friendly and intimate service and exceptional value for money. You will easily find Villa Violet coming from the airport; it is close to the central areas of Windhoek; and you are within stumbling distance from the legendary eisbein and stein of Joe's Beer house.

The rooms at Villa Violet open onto small patios making an ideal spot to relax and read a book or have a cup of tea while you chat with Ben and Heidi. Rinse your travel-weary bones in the swimming pool or retreat to your air conditioned room with a book from the small library.

The décor as simple, elegant and modern with hotel-like amenities including wireless internet, flat-screen cable TV, climate control, tea/coffee, personal safe, honesty bar and hair dryers.

Day 2

Kalahari

Early start after breakfast with a drive towards Mariental to begin your adventure properly.

The Kalahari is an exceptionally beautiful living desert a large semi-arid sandy savannah draped over a gently rolling inland sea of sand covering most of Botswana and large parts of Namibia and South Africa. It is also the last bastion of the San people with the modern world having enveloped all the other areas they once roamed.

Here in Namibia it is typically red sands covered in thin, wispy, mostly golden grass and dotted with acacia trees and wide ranging wildlife including gemsbok, impala, jackals and cheetah.

Located in Mariental, the Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch offers guests a Bushmen Walk activity. Guests can join in a relaxing walk with the Bushmen, who are from the San tribe to their demonstration village. Guests can learn ancient survival skills as well as the bushmen's secrets that were inherited from their forefathers. On arrival at the traditional Bushman village, guests will meet a family who will demonstrate the way they used to store water in ostrich eggs, plants for medicinal use, setting up traps, the making of ostrich and bead jewelry. The Bushmen speak their own language and the game ranch provides translators for guests.

Day 3 -4

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red sand dunes to make this one of the natural wonders of Africa and a photographers heaven.

Aside from the attractions at Sossusvlei - Dune 45, Hiddenvlei, Big Daddy and Deadvlei - other attractions in the area include the Sesriem Canyon and Namib-Naukluft National Park, where the mountains of the Namib meet its plains.

Desert Quiver Camp uniquely combines modern self-catering accommodation with comfort and style. Conveniently located a mere 5km from the entrance gate to Sossusvlei, the inspiring scenery characterised by granite outcrops, spectacular views and roaming wildlife will captivate your senses.

The patio is equipped with a barbeque facility, a fitted kitchenette with under counter fridge and 2 plate hob. Utility boxes with most utensils needed are available at reception and fresh food supplies can be ordered daily.

Day 5 - 6

Swakopmund

Today you drive north west towards Swakopmund.  Taking in an amazing change in topography as you travel.

Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, Swakopmund is often described as being more German than Germany. Now a seaside resort, Swakopmund is the capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has plenty to keep visitors happy. The quirky mix of German and Namibian influences, colonial-era buildings and the cool sea breeze make it very popular.

Situated in Swakopmund town centre and only a 5min walk from the beach and main shopping area, is the Swakopmund Guesthouse, owned and run by the Borg family. Previously used as a holiday home it has been completely revamped, in a very elegant and modern style. A bed and breakfast for the upmarket traveler who demands high comfort levels, personalized service and the short distance to the beach!

Rock and thatch chalets gaze out over the Klip River Valley, where Black Eagles hunt just below your private deck.

Elephant tracking (extra cost) is one of our most popular activities. A guide with a tracker will take you out into the surrounding conservancy in search of the elusive desert elephants, giving one also the opportunity to appreciate the lifestyle of the local Damara-Nama people. Lunch takes place in the shade of a tree in the remote wilderness of Damaraland. Damaraland is one of the few last places where the wildlife roams freely, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The name Hobatere means “Find me”, and once you do, you will enjoy a warm welcome and personalised service.

Hobatere Lodge is located 80 km north of Kamanjab on the western border of the Etosha National park, situated in a concession area of 32 000 ha, which is home to a wide selection of game including Lion, Leopard, Oryx, Eland, Cheetah, Giraffe, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra and Elephant. Our activities centre around day or night game drives (extra cost), bird watching and guided walks, affording guests ample opportunity to view the abundance of wildlife and endemic species in the area.
