Costa Rica is a relatively small country, covering approximately 0.03 percent of the surface of the globe.  However, it has 5% of the worlds biodiversity, with twenty six percent of the country made up of conservation and natural protected territory.  Tourism is key to this country, especially eco-tourism.  We believe it's a great Holiday destination with a huge variety of experiences to uncover , but don't take our word for it........

When is the best time to travel

The best time to visit will depend on why you’re visiting.

Costa rica has a tropical climate.  Its landscape changes constantly throughout the year.  Hence, this destination is a good one to visit year round.  

 

However, perhaps the only time to be wary  is from September to October  which is prime hurricane season in and around the Central America/Caribean area.

The variety of activities on offer in Costa Rica add to its appeal as a year round destination.  Whether it's rafting, wildlife viewing, hiking or just taking some time out to relax and unwind, Costa Rica has all of this to offer and more.

For the adrenaline junkies why not try White water rafting with conditions ranging from Class I & II for beginners all the way up to Class V for experts.  Perhaps mountain biking or surfing is your thing if so then Costa Rica is a great place to explore and indulge.  Other adventure activities include; Zip-lining, horseback riding, tubing, diving and/or snorkeling and of course hiking.

Costa Rica history & Culture

In 1502, Christopher Columbus landed and named a new undiscovered country the  "rich coast" which today is known as Costa Rica.

The indigenous cultures of Nahuati and Chibcha eventually die out with the introduction of diseases and the vicious treatment from the conquering Spanish.

Costa Rica declared independence from Spain in 1821 and later further independence from the Federal Republic of Central America in 1838.  In 1948, after a 44 day cival war the government abolished the military.  A new democratic govenment was elected under the new constitution in 1953.  Since this time Costa Rica has enjoyed peace and stability, enabling it to become one of the most progressive nations in latin america.

According to the "Happy Planet index", Costa Rica is the greenest country in the world with regards to its use of natural resources and the health and well-being of its citizens.
