Day 7 (Peru)- AsktheTraveller -12 Days of Christmas

"On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 7 mountain lodges, 6 Iconic temples....... 5 Great Lakes.......4 boats a cruising, 3 Hippos a wading, 2 Sri Lankan Elephants, and a Toucan in a Rain Forest tree."

Day 7 - Our focus on New Years Eve turns to Peru

For culture, history and adventure, there really is nowhere quite like Peru. Whether you’re here to experience the Inca archaeological sites, the National Parks, the Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca or take part in the huge array of adventure trails, mountain biking, rafting, trekking and of course the museums, Peru offers something for everyone.

We can offer trekking on the Inca trail or if you prefer, the comfort of a luxury train whisking you to Machu Picchu. Foodies will love our Classic Food tour of Peru. Many are here to visit the Inca sites with a bit of adventure along the way. You can relax at the end of your tour on the Northern Beaches, where many people don’t realise the high quality of the surfing. The waves are comparable with Hawaii, or if time permits, Peru is easy to combine with Colombia, Ecuador or Bolivia.

About 100 km north of Lima is the city of Caral. There are Pyramid remains here that pre-date the Incas by 4000 years. They were built around 100 years before the pyramids at Giza in Egypt, so it’s possible this is the oldest city on earth!

If you’re lucky enough to be in Peru on the 8th February, you can join the celebrations for the National Day of the Pisco Sour. In fact, there is also an annual Pisco Festival celebrated in March for this famous local drink.
