"On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 9 Zebras a dazzling, 8 Seals are basking, 7 mountain lodges, 6 Iconic temples....... 5 Great Lakes.......4 boats a cruising, 3 Hippos a wading, 2 Sri Lankan Elephants, and a Toucan in a Rain Forest tree."

Day 9 - South Africa is the core destination we feature today.

The Rainbow Nation - probably the best known of all of our featured African destinations, due to extensive news coverage over the last 30 years. With the ending of apartheid and the start of free elections, this country has seen a real renaissance as a travel hot-spot of the last few years.

South Africa offers a vast array of holiday experiences to cater for probably most tastes.

Of course you can have your traditional Safari experience, with numerous world class lodges and private reserves we have options to suit most tastes and budgets. Perhaps a few days at Sabi Sand game reserve or Chitwa Chitwa takes your fancy just to name a couple, which ever you choose we can give you the best chance of seeing the "Big Five" - Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhinoceros and Leopard to make your holiday memorable.

Safari is great, but South Africa has so much more to offer. One of the iconic trips in South Africa is known as, "The Garden Route" which you can do as a fly drive from Cape Town. A 300km stretch along the south west coast which can be visited year round. the primary draw is the stunning scenery and the fantastic towns such as; Knysna, Plettenberg Bay etc. This is Wine country and overnight stays at the vineyards are a must, great food, great wine and great hospitality.

Perhaps you fancy a quick weekend to Cape Town, yes that's right a long weekend! Due to the time difference from the UK of only + 2 hours, jet lag is minimal - so a 4 or 5 night trip will not be too exhausting, especially if your planning on having some luxury experiences.

Then for the history buffs, township tours are very educational. However, many people like to head further east towards KwaZulu Natal and the battlefields whilst combining with an amazing Safari experience.

History, Safari, Amazing scenery and top class cuisine make for an outstanding all round holiday experience, but don't take our word for it - make an enquiry with AsktheTraveller and we shall put your in touch with our Local partners based in Cape Town, so you can get the inside scoop on what to do and see from the real experts.
