Spring into the Canaries

It’s great to travel all over the globe exploring, but sometimes you just want to hop on a relatively short flight to somewhere warm. This urge is particularly strong at this time of year when it’s pretty grim outside and you dream of warm sand between your toes and the ocean lapping upon the shore. Head south for 4 hours or so and you’re off the west coast of Africa in the Canary Islands.

Known as the Island of Eternal Spring for its mild climate all year, the beautiful Canary island of Tenerife is one of the most sought-after destinations. Located about a 100km off the southern tip of Morocco, the temperature here rarely drops below 20°C. Travellers flock here to seek and enjoy a few days of rest on its warm beaches, enjoy its marvellous protected natural surroundings and unique customs, fiestas and cuisine. Tenerife guarantees fun. Whether you’re travelling with friends, your family or a partner, Tenerife is an ideal destination. Go up the impressive Teide in a cable car. This mountain is the third largest volcano on earth; dive on the spectacular seabed; bathe in beautiful natural swimming pools and enjoy lovely sunsets; practice your favourite water sport and play golf on some great courses. Come and visit and you’ll soon discover why Tenerife is one of Britain’s favourite holiday destinations.

Gran Canaria

Top tip: If you decide to hire a car and explore the island, head north to Mesa del Mar where you’ll encounter the ultimate beach escape. This majestic spot is home to the islands most dramatic sands and it’s a real unspoilt gem. Around the corner is a natural ocean pool which is surrounded by cliffs and crashing waves. A great spot for you to take photos. You can also spend a couple of hours at Cueva del Viento, where you’ll find an extensive underground lava tube system where naturalist guides will take you on an educational tour. Don’t worry, the volcano is unlikely to erupt.

We have picked the 5* star Gran Melia Palacio De Isora, set in Tenerife’s stunning natural beauty. It was ‘’Voted Best Resort in Spain’’ in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler awards 2012 and 2014. With the Atlantic ocean on one side and the majestic Teide on the other, this resort is a wonderful choice for a holiday at any time of year.

The pricing is with direct flights from Gatwick and a week in a standard deluxe double with breakfast. If you would like to upgrade the room to half board or full board no problem, just AsktheTraveller…

From £2,030 (£1,015 pp) based on 2 adults travelling during May 2017.
